Creating Young Minds Week 12 Recap

For those who don't know, Creating Young Minds is the "1st Replication of the European Model for Basketball Training & Development in the USA." They take undiscovered talent from all levels and give them a chance to showcase their talents in front of scouts of pro leagues all over the world. Ran by Shira Ackerman and Mathis Crowder, this league allows basketball fans to catch what they are missing, as former NBA players, players from overseas, NBA G-leagues, young upcoming talent from prep school and college compete at the highest level.

This last Saturday games, in particular, were packed with great matchups with so many key players sticking out. After the game, scout and analyst Rashad Phillips in attendance said some of the guys in the CYM Undiscovered League could play in the NBA G-league and around the world right now.

THE RECAP

First, the Undiscovered Team vs. The Underdogs. Undiscovered came out on top 86 to 59. Known as the "high energy" 6'7 "Jet Pack Jay", Jarrett Henderson, put up 28 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. As many scouts have pointed out, he is all over the floor both on defense and offense. Plus, he drives to the basket with ease.

Guard Lewis Patterson was another big contributor to this win, as he put up 23 points and six steals. Defense in this game was key, as multiple players had more than two steals. As a great perimeter defender, Patterson helped lead the way.

For The Underdogs 6'2 guard, Charles Rambo, lead the team with 22 points and four rebounds. Overall, the Underdogs played a solid game, but the Undiscovered team dominated, per usual.

The next game was a battle. Two teams filled with experience with Creating Young Minds team (CYM) vs. The Pros. CYM came out on top, 67 to 57, with a strong performance from 2020 NBA draft prospect guard Mike Lenoir. Lenoir scored 19 points, dished nine assists, and grabbed four rebounds. It was another all-around game from the talented guard. Lenoir ran the floor as the playmaker, putting his teammates in the best position to score.

Lenoir wasn't alone, there were five players in double figures for CYM. Another strong showing from 6’7 forward, Balsa Bazovic. The stretch-big man put up a double-double with 10 points and 17 rebounds.

Meanwhile, The Pros were headlined by former NBA player CJ Carter. Working his mid-range game, Carter put up 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. Alongside him is a 6’5, 18-year-old guard on the rise in Yash Mattu. Leading the team with another strong performance, Mattu scored the most points for his team with 20.

The last game was a nail biter, by the margin coming to one point. Lewisville Black came on top vs. The Prospects, 56 to 55. These two underrated teams are on the rise and have alot of fight in them, as we saw in the game. Lewisville Black was led by athletic forward, Marcus Brooks, who put 17 points and seven rebounds. As we mentioned on our Locked IN Sports Podcast, Brooks is always making the right plays on the court, while also not afraid to take the lead and attack the basket. Point Guard, Kevin Booze also stood out with 17 points, four assists, and three boards.

Another usual suspect for the Prospects had a strong performance, as 5’8 guard Abraham Davalos brought in 19 points for the team. Every week we see Davalos play his heart out, running all over the court, showing out for the little guys. His height doesn't stop him from finishing at the basket or from shooting threes over bigger guards.

With numerous big games, it's not easy to pick a player of the week. Although this week, Locked IN is giving it to Jarrett Henderson, even though it feels like he does this every week. The dominance on both ends of the court, protecting the basket, and taking over as the leading scorer with the team being without sharpshooter, Damyine Durham, is what led Undiscovered to win the game. There are no flaws in his game, as he has adapted to everything thrown at him.
